“All that I hope to say in books, all that I ever hope to say, is that I love the world.” – E.B. White
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, MiaLisa McFarland Millares was inspired to write books by the Ezra Jack Keats book-writing competition in her elementary school (P.S.48) and intermediate schools (McKinley).
She is a wife and mother of three small children, and she has also been a yoga teacher, lawyer, mediator, elementary school teacher, trainer, youth minister, professional storyteller, resort activity host, and actress.
She does most of her writing holding a small baby and typing with one hand. She and her husband reside in Minnesota with their three spirited children and her parents, which makes for a three generation household. A Mother’s Love: Sleep Tight, My Darlings, is her debut children’s picture book. She is excited to continue this writing journey and see where it leads. Her hope is to create some more children’s picture books that her children will enjoy.
I love to hear from people who have visited the site. It is so lovely to connect and share. Please feel free to leave me a message. Let me know if you are interested in me doing a book reading or an event. I can be booked for speaking engagements for parenting groups (virtually right now), book signing and story time and songs for children (virtually right now). My new podcast venture is currently looking for mammas who would like to be interviewed. If you are a mamma who stays at home and manages your house, or a mamma who works and comes home to care for your kids we want to talk to you. We know you are all doing amazing things!
Putting children to bed is a tricky thing. My husband and I have three beautiful, spirited and brilliant little ones ranging in age from 7 to 8 months old. Since our newest addition, bedtime, which used to go somewhat smoothly has taken a turn for the worse. The older kids, do anything to stay up later and have some extra Mommy time. One of the newer tactics I have seen is enticing me to have some thoughtful conversations with them right as I turn out the light. These are questions that are powerful and I don’t want to shortchange the conversation, so I end up talking much longer than anticipated. The new book A Mother’s Love, Sleep Tight was inspired by my children. Each night as I tuck them into bed they would ask questions. “How much do you love me, Mommy?,” “Will you always be here with us?” This book chronicles some of the answers that I give to them about my love for them which is, as all mammas know, all encompassing.
This year, after talking through the options of what we could do to keep our kids active and keep them safely away from others we decided that we needed to embrace winter.
I love the idea of being the kind of person who is organized enough to have a bin of seasonally specific decorations and changing my decor based on my season. That appeals to me. My mom is one of those people who is a…
This week has ushered in the beautiful changing seasons and all of a sudden in the midst of the crisp fall air I want to go for car rides to see the beautiful leaves, drink pumpkin spice coffee and decorate for Halloween. Our family…
